About Laura Nelson

Roadside Attraction SOLD

Laura Nelson thrives in the beautiful Rocky Mountain town of Fernie BC.,where lifestyle, community, and landscape create a powerful sense of place and provide endless inspiration for this visual artist. Her paintings celebrate the colour, rhythm, and energy of the outdoors, and reveal the intensity of her bond to these natural places. Laura is mostly a self taught artist, starting at an early age with pencil, charcoal, and pastel. She has been exploring with acrylic on canvas since 2003.

"I've always been humbled by the transformative  forces of the mountains and forests. I love to be out in it, mountain biking, hiking, skiing or just gardening. It is then that I am truly alive, and reminded of our essential connection to the earth.

I marvel at the infinite possibilities when starting a new painting, and the challenges that come in simplifying forms and creating a representation of something so alive.  I'm always learning, trying new techniques, mindful of the marks I'm making on my canvas yet working intuitively. Each painting at some point takes on a life of its own, the end result is always a surprise.

My intention is to capture the beauty and energy I find in the natural world in my work for viewers to experience and to draw attention to the significance of our wild places."
